Static or dynamic DuitNow QR: what is the difference

Updated

Bayarcash uses dynamic DuitNow QR. Each payment gets its own QR, with the amount already in it, and the QR expires after about 5 minutes. A static QR is one fixed QR, often a printed sticker, and the customer types the amount. Bayarcash does not offer a static QR.

Both types use the same DuitNow QR standard, so your customer can scan them with any banking app or e-wallet that supports DuitNow QR. The differences are in how the QR is made and used:

Static QR Dynamic QR (Bayarcash)
What it is One QR for all payments A new QR for each payment
Amount The customer types it Already in the QR. The customer cannot change it.
Where it comes from Printed once, for example as a sticker at a counter Made for each order: on the Bayarcash payment page, on your own page through the API, or in BCL QR Terminal
Time limit None Expires after about 5 minutes
Match a payment to an order You match it by hand, from the amount and the time Automatic: the QR holds the order
Payment confirmation You check your bank or e-wallet app Bayarcash sends the result to your shop or system, and the payment shows in Transactions
Risks The customer types a wrong amount. Someone sticks a fake QR over yours. Low. The amount and your shop name are set, and an old QR stops working.
Refunds A refund is a new payment back to the customer. DuitNow has no void. The same
Disputes The customer contacts their bank or e-wallet, within 60 days The same
Typical use Market stalls, donation boxes Online checkout, invoices, payment links, counters with a screen
On Bayarcash Not offered Yes

Your customer scans the QR with their banking app or e-wallet. The app shows your shop name and the amount. The customer confirms the payment, and the app shows a receipt. For the screens in each app, see How your customer pays with DuitNow QR.

If the QR expires before the customer pays, show a new QR. Do not ask the customer to pay to an old QR.

Bayarcash has no printed QR for a counter. Use BCL QR Terminal instead. BCL is a Bayarcash product to sell without a website. QR Terminal turns a phone, tablet or laptop into a payment counter:

  1. You type the amount.
  2. QR Terminal shows a new DuitNow QR for that sale.
  3. The customer scans it and pays.

The payment goes through your Bayarcash account, so it shows in Transactions with your other payments. See QR Terminal in the BCL Help Centre.

The DuitNow QR fee is the same for each payment, online or at a counter. To see the fee and the amount that you receive, use the payout calculator. Payouts follow the normal payout schedule.

Two habits prevent most QR problems:

  • Show the QR only when the customer is ready to pay. The QR expires after about 5 minutes.
  • Check Transactions before you make a new QR for an order that the customer says they paid. This prevents a double payment.

Common issues

Can I print one Bayarcash QR for my shop counter?

No. Bayarcash does not offer a static QR. For sales at a counter, use BCL QR Terminal. It makes a new Bayarcash DuitNow QR for each sale, on a phone, tablet or laptop. See QR Terminal in the BCL Help Centre.

My customer says that the QR expired. What do I do?

Each QR is valid for a short time only, about 5 minutes. Start a new payment, or show a new QR for the same order. If the customer says that they already paid, check the payment in Transactions first, so that they do not pay two times.

Can my customer change the amount after they scan the QR?

No. The amount is in the QR. To charge a different amount, start a new payment.
